5 Questions About Ant Control in Port Elizabeth

You put a plate down and the ants find it. You wipe the counter, move the food and a little later they are back. That is a familiar reason for people to call us about ants in Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha.

Ant Control: five questions answered by True Clean in Gqeberha and Port Elizabeth.

Before treating, we want to find out where the activity is coming from and how far it extends. These five questions explain the approach.

1. Does having ants mean my house is dirty?

No. We have seen substantial ant problems in very clean kitchens. Food left available can contribute to the activity, but an infestation is not proof of poor housekeeping.

Tell us which rooms are affected and where you first notice the trails. Ants appearing around food throughout the house give us a different starting point from one trail at a kitchen window.

Cleaning up crumbs and keeping food sealed are useful steps. They do not replace finding the routes and colonies contributing to the problem.

2. Do you look outside as well as inside?

Yes, where the job calls for it. We check the indoor activity alongside possible routes around the building.

Skirting gaps, window areas and wall cracks are places we look. Outside, we also assess activity near the foundations and paving, moisture sources and branches touching the house.

Where ants emerge is not necessarily where the colony is. That is why we ask you to show us the trails and inspect before deciding which areas need treatment.

3. Do you use bait or spray?

The choice depends on what we find. Bait can be part of the indoor treatment, with other work directed at the areas and outdoor activity that need attention.

Tell us what sprays, baits or home remedies you have already used and where you put them. We need that history when planning the work.

After treatment, leave the bait where it has been placed and check with us before spraying over it or washing treated edges. We will show you what should be left undisturbed and explain the cleaning instructions for your treatment.

4. When should I notice a change, and will you need to return?

In our experience, a reduction often starts within a few days. The response varies, especially where activity is extensive inside and outside the house.

Some jobs need more than one visit. Our usual ant follow-up is around two weeks later, with the plan confirmed for the property.

Tell us if the same trails remain busy or if activity appears somewhere new. An occasional ant after treatment is different from the original level of infestation, but a continuing problem still needs assessing. We do not promise that every ant will disappear by a particular day.

5. What about my pets, and can I stop the ants returning?

Tell us about your animals before the appointment so we can arrange to keep them away from the work. Follow the treatment-specific instructions about when they can return to treated areas.

For ongoing prevention, keep food sealed, deal with leaks and check gaps and branches that may provide access. Clearing overgrown areas can also help with access around the property.

Those measures can reduce opportunities for ants. They cannot guarantee that none will ever get in again. We assess whether further treatment is needed rather than promise a permanently ant-free home.
