Water damage and flood drying in Gqeberha

A geyser that let go in the ceiling, a pipe that finally gave up, or a storm that came in under the door overnight.

However it started, the first day matters more than the whole rest of the week.

This is the one thing on this website we’d push you on.

Mould starts growing underneath a wet carpet inside about 48 hours. After roughly three days, if there’s a smell or you can see something, cleaning is no longer the answer and the carpet usually has to come out and be replaced. Reach us inside that window and it’s a completely different job with a completely different bill.

On this one, phone rather than WhatsApp. 061 905 0514.

What to do before we get there

Get the water off the floor however you can manage it.

Lift what you’re able to lift, especially anything wooden that’s standing on wet carpet. The legs will bleed into the pile and that stain doesn’t come out afterwards.

Open the windows and get air moving through. Don’t put a heater on it in a closed room, which feels like the right idea and makes the humidity worse.

What we do

We extract the standing water out of the carpet and the underfelt. Where the underfelt has gone, we lift it and deal with what’s underneath.

Then the drying equipment goes in, and it stays in until the moisture readings come down and stay down. Not until it looks dry. Looking dry is what catches people out.

Getting it properly dry is what stops the mould, and mould is the expensive part when it gets missed.

What it costs

This is the one place on the site we can’t put a number up, and it isn’t us being cagey about it.

A geyser in a passage and a storm through a whole ground floor are not the same job at all. It depends on how much water went down, how far it travelled, what’s underneath the carpet, and how long the equipment has to stay in the house. Any number we published would be wrong for most of the homes we walk into.

What we will do is tell you what we think it’s going to take before we start, and tell you again if that changes while we’re in there.

Everything we do put a number to is on the prices page.

Insurance

Most household policies cover sudden water damage.

Photograph everything before you move any of it, and hang onto the invoice. We can give you a written scope of what we did, which is usually the thing the assessor asks for.
