5 Questions About Bed Bug Treatment in Port Elizabeth
Finding something on the bedding is enough to make most people worry. Before you start throwing furniture away or booking a treatment, we need to establish what is actually there.
These five questions explain how we approach a suspected bed-bug problem in Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha.
1. How do you know whether it is bed bugs?
We inspect. A description of bites or a mark on the bedding is a reason to investigate, but it does not confirm the pest on its own.
We have had calls about suspected bed bugs where the problem turned out to be something else. Tell us what you have seen, where you found it and whether you have a clear photograph of the insect.
It is better to establish that before choosing a treatment. The right response depends on what is present.
2. Where do you look, and do you only treat the mattress?
The mattress seams are one starting point. We also check the headboard, behind it, and nearby furniture such as bedside cupboards.
The inspection helps establish whether the activity is concentrated around one bed or extends further. We do not assume that treating the visible part of a mattress will address every hiding place.
Our work can include vacuuming visible insects and eggs before treating the affected areas. The scope and suitable surfaces depend on the inspection and the treatment being used.
3. What should I do with bedding and clothes before you arrive?
Ask us for preparation instructions before moving things around. Dealing with the bedding is part of the plan, but that does not mean emptying the bedroom into another room.
Tell us what can be washed and dried, and check its fabric-care instructions. We can explain what needs attention and how the laundry fits around the visit.
Do not assume that an ordinary wash, cleaning the mattress or treating the room alone completes the whole job. We want you to understand the preparation and follow-up together.
4. Will one visit be enough?
We usually arrange a follow-up one to two weeks after the first treatment. It allows us to assess what remains and whether further work is needed.
In our experience, getting the problem under control can take several weeks, and a heavy infestation can take longer. We would not promise that every property will be clear on the same day or after the same number of visits.
Keep us informed about sightings between appointments. Tell us the room and location rather than assume that activity after the first visit means the whole process has failed.
5. When can people and pets go back inside?
We will give you instructions for the treatment used at your property. Plan for time away and tell us beforehand if leaving the home is difficult for anyone in the household.
The return conditions can include time, drying and ventilation requirements. A surface looking dry is not a substitute for following those instructions.
An old message about another customer's appointment may describe different work. Confirm the arrangements for your own booking before treatment starts.
