5 Questions About Rug Cleaning in Port Elizabeth
A loose rug can look fairly clean on top and still hold a surprising amount of sand underneath. It can also have a smell or a mark that needs more attention than an ordinary wash.
If you are arranging rug cleaning in Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha, these five questions are a useful place to start.
1. Why do you remove the dust before washing?
At our workshop, the rug goes on the shaker table first. That helps remove the sand and grit worked down into its base before we start the wet cleaning.
After dust removal, we vacuum and work through the cleaning process chosen for that rug. It is more involved than running a machine over the visible surface in your lounge.
The preparation is part of the job. A rug near a busy doorway may have accumulated dirt you cannot judge just by looking at the pile.
2. Does the material change how you clean it?
Yes. Wool, cotton, jute, viscose and a long shaggy pile do not all behave the same way. We need to know what we are working with before deciding on the approach.
Send a photo of the whole rug and its label, if it has one. Tell us about previous cleaning, colour changes or damage you have noticed.
We may need to inspect it before confirming what can be done. Do not assume that a method which worked on one rug is suitable for another, even when they look similar.
3. Can you remove pet smells and urine stains?
Tell us about urine before the rug is booked in. We need to assess the contamination and whether additional treatment is appropriate.
The smell and the visible mark are separate parts of that assessment. Improving one does not guarantee that the other will disappear. Some discolouration can remain after cleaning.
A thick shaggy rug can also take much more work than a flat rug. Where the treatment involved is substantial, we will discuss the cost and the likely limits with you. Sometimes that conversation includes whether the rug is worth treating at all.
4. Do you collect rugs, or must I bring mine in?
We offer collection and delivery, and you can also arrange to drop off and collect. On-site cleaning can be considered where appropriate, but it is a different arrangement from taking a rug through the workshop process.
Tell us your suburb and whether you need transport included when asking for a quote. Mention anything that makes moving the rug difficult.
For a urine-contaminated shaggy rug, the work may need to happen at our workshop rather than in your home. We will confirm the arrangement for the particular rug.
5. How long will it take, and what do you need to quote?
Send the length and width, the material if known, photographs and a description of the problem. Say whether you want collection and delivery or will bring it in yourself.
Ask about turnaround when booking, particularly if you need the rug back for an event or a move. Washing, drying and transport all need to fit into the plan. Weather can affect the timing, so an old estimate from another booking is not a promise for yours.
